I was delighted to once again work with Treehouse Media to help produce an historical documentary short for RCAHMW about Merthyr Tydfil in Wales. The ~7min short is narrated from the viewpoint of european travellers to the town based on real letters that still exist and tells the story of how the Dowlais and Cyfarthfa Ironworks plants and subsequent boom in iron production rapidly transformed the small town into the largest in Wales. Four separate scenes required multiple animations of each, depicting the dark and smoky world of 1800’s industrial Wales. I enjoyed the challenge of producing dirty and smoggy environments rather than the clean, new scenes more commonly used in archviz. It’s not often that I have to add rubbish and dirt to my scenes so this was a welcome temporary diversion.
